Commonwealth winners to be rewarded at par with Asiad players

Chandigarh, Jan 31 (UNI) The four judokas of Haryana who have won medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Judo Championship held at Mauritius would get the same amount of prize money at par with Asiad level players.

This annoucement was made by Member of Parliament, Rohtak who is also the President of the Haryana Football Association, Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda at Rohtak today.

Mr Deepender Singh Hooda honoured the four judokas hailing from Rohtak and Jhajjar districts which included Sandeep of village Shimli, gold, Manjeet Nandal, silver and Virender, bronze both from Bohar Village, and Anil from Sauldha Village, bronze who had won medals at the Commonwealth Championship 2008, recently held at Mauritius.

They were also presented with a shawl and mementos.

Mr Deepender Singh Hooda also lauded the sports policy of the Haryana Government and special thrust was being given to promote sports in a big way. Rural stadias were also being constructed to promote sports in rural areas.

He further disclosed that a sum of Rs 40 crore will be spent to improve the sports facilities in the state.

He also informed that a sports complex with modern infrastructure will be constructed on 100 acres of land at Rohtak.

He said that according to the sports policy of the state, any state player who wins gold, silver and bronze medals at the Olympics would get a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 50 Lakhs and Rs.

25 lakhs respectively.

Similarly, any player who scores a century at the International level will get a cash prize of one lakh rupees, for any wicket 25,000 rupees and for any goal in hockey 10,000 rupees.
