Chowrasia maintains lead, Rashid Khan fires best round of day

Gurgaon, Jan 31 (UNI) Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia shot three under 69 and with a total of eight under 136, continued to lead the field at the end of round two of the Solaris Chemtech Open Golf Championship, here today.

Veteran Vijay Kumar is in second place at six under 138. However, the best round of the day was registered by teenager Rashid Khan.

Rashid, playing as an amateur carded six under 66. His total moved to four over 148.

The cut was made at five over 149. Fifty professionals and two amateurs managed to make the cut. The field will include a total of fifty four golfers as two more amateurs will join the fifty two who managed to make the cut.

Chowrasia teed-off from the 10th on a cold and windy morning at the Golden Greens Golf Course. He was five under after fourteen holes as he made four birdies on the trot from the second to the fifth after having made a birdie previously on the 14th. Then two bogeys on the sixth and eighth brought him back to three under.

Vijay Kumar grabbed second place on day two after shooting 68.

His overall score is six-under 138 and he trails Chowrasia by two strokes.

His round was punctuated by birdies on the 17th, 18th, first, second and ninth and a lone bogey on the 15th.

Gaganjeet Bhullar and Randhir Singh Ghotra are tied for at third position at five under 139. While Ghotra shot 67 today, Bhullar came up with a 71.

But the day clearly belonged to 16-year-old Rashid Khan. He fired 66 to climb upto tied 35th. His overall score stands at four over 148.

The action-packed second round also saw Vinod Kumar make a hole-in-one on the par three seventh. He is currently place tied 27th at two over 146.

Rahil Gangjee (74, 69) is tied 12th at one under 143 while Ashok Kumar (73, 72) is tied 20th at one over 145. Gaurav Ghei (77, 71) ended the day in tied 35th at four over 148.
