Vaiko seeks HC judge probe against DMK govt on phone tapping
Chennai, Jan 30 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko today demanded a probe by a sitting High court judge into the charges of tapping of phones of politicians, businessmen, academicians and journalists by the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
In a statement here, he said reports appearing in an English daily about the phone tapping was only part of the truth and the police was tapping the phones of many people.
According to his information, his own phone and the phones of seven other office bearers of his party were being tapped.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's denial in the state assembly was only an attempt to hide the truth, he charged.
While this practice had been eliminated in many countries, it was still continuing in India on the pretext of national security, he said, adding not only the opposition parties, but also the phones of some ministers and high level police officials were also being tapped.
As the Chief Minister was evassive, the government should appoint a High Court judge to inquire into the issue and bring out the truth, he demanded.
