UCFV Awards Rs 2.2 Lakh's Scholarships

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (UNI) The second anniversary and Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony of University College of Frazer Valley (UCFV), Canada's BBA Degree Programme in Chandigarh was Celebrated here last night.

The British Columbia Government's leader of the House and Minister Mr. Michael de Jong was the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Michael de Jong said that UCFV was providing highly practical and applied model study to its students, for preparing them leaders in business administration anywhere in the world.

Today the whole world was crying out for strong business leaders. India, only would face a shortage of more than 1000 CEOs by 2010 and throughout the corporate ladder this number would increase exponentially, he added.

Mr. Jong further said that UCFV had parterned with Panjab University in 2005 and now with the University of Mumbai.

He said that Indian students deserved the very best in education, delivered at their door step and UCFV would also be bringing a series of highly specialized MBA programmes to India along with introducing International Industry Standard Corporate Training Programmes for the retail sector.

Professor D.J. Sandhu, BC Regional Innovation Chair in Canada-India Business and Economic Development and Ms. Crystal Sawyer, manager of India Operations for the BC Regional Innovation Chair in Canada-India Business and Economic Development also spoke on the occasion.

In the ceremony, the top award for outstanding achievements amounting Rs. 97700 was given to Ms Sonam Dutta. The second award for academic excellence and financial need of Rs 48850 was given to Ms. Mandeep Chahal. The third award for combined excellence in academics and athletics was given to Ms. Arvinder Jhutti.

UCFV also surprised a student Mr. Gurneet Anad with a cheque of Rs. 25000 to recognise his outstanding willingness to provide all around assistance to Professors and Administrator of the programme.

About 200 students along with their parents and Panjab University officials attended the Scholarship awards ceremony.
