Srinagar, Jan 30 (UNI) Accusing cable operators of telecasting immoral programmes, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged that renegades have been given liberty to harass people including women and children in north Kashmir.

Hundreds of PDP supporters led by senior leaders today took to streets at Bandipora, about 55 km from here to protest against the cable operators and former militants working with security forces and police.

Raising slogans against the administration for its failure to check the activities of renegades and cable operators, the processionists marched through different bazar from Gulshah Chowk.

They alleged that renegades were behind the increase in immoral activities after they were given a free hand by the administration.

They also alleged that local cable operators, who are indulging in blackmailing, have also started a campaign of character assassination of some political leaders.

A spokesman of the PDP said some cable operators with 'doubtful credentials' keeping aside the ethics of journalism had started a defamation campaign against the PDP leaders in North Kashmir district.

''We appeal to state government to prohibit such so called journalist and the cable operators from propagating malicious campaigns'', he said and demanded ban on the cable operators.
