Official Group for state Agriculture Mission
Bangalore, Jan 30 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said the Official Group, constituted by the state government, had recommended setting up of a state-level Agriculture Mission to improve the economic condition of farmers.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the Official Group submitted the report today, recommending the implementation of a multi-pronged strategy.
Recognising that the agricultural sector was dominated by small holdings and dry land farming, the Group advocated organising farmers into groups in every village for the purpose of taking up cultivation of community agreed crops, dairy farming and horticulture, he said.
''The group's approach to farming will enable farmers' groups to obtain loans from financial institutions and technical advice from various extension agencies more easily. They can also access markets for agricultural produce more effectively than individual farmers,'' the Governor said.
