Ganga Ram doctors get 3 Padma awards

New Delhi, Jan 30 (UNI) Three doctors from Delhi's Ganga Ram Hospital have been conferred the Padma Awards, making it the first hospital in India to get maximum number of Padma Awards in the medical field.

This year, 18 doctors from various parts of India have been selected for Padma Awards - two doctors were selected for Padma Bhushan and sixteen doctors in Padma Shri Category.

Delhi has bagged largest number of awards which is seven, followed by two for Tamil Nadu, two for Maharashtra, two for Bihar and one each for Chandigarh, Manipur, Uttarpradesh, Uttrakhand and Kerala.

Out of seven from Delhi, who have bagged the awards, three doctors are from Ganga Ram Hospital were included in this year's list of Padma awardees announced on the eve of Republic Day for their contribution in the development of their respective medical specialities, a spokesperson of the Ganga Ram hospital said.

While Chairperson, Department of Acupunture, Raman Kapur has been selected for Padma Shree for his contribution in development of this speciality in India (he becomes the first Acupunturist in India to be selected for this prestigious award), Co-Chairman, Department of Gastroenterology Randhir Sud, has been selected for Padma Shree for his contribution in development of this speciality in India.

The third doctor from Ganga Ram to bag the award is Dr Malvika Sabharwal, visiting consultant, Department of Obs and Gynae. Dr Sabharwal has been selected for Padma Shree for her contribution in development of her speciality in India.
