As per details received from CSHRC, the incident took place in this district's Malda village about one-and-a-half years back. Taking cognisance of newspaper reports, the CSHRC sought a report from the collector and the Kasdol Janpad Panchayat's chief executive officer.
The Janpad panchayat informed CSHRC that the tank was not constructed with technical assistance and that it was built using development work funds received directly by the panchayat. The CSHRC yesterday also ordered that Rs 10,000 each be paid to relatives of injured kids and added that the government may later recover the amount from the guilty.
