Washington, Jan 30 : The deceased son of Anna Nicole Smith, Daniel Smith, is said to have hated the media attention that surrounded his mother and had wanted to disassociate himself from her, a family friend revealed.
Ford Shelly, according to the Associated Press, testified at an inquest into Daniel's death on Jan 30.
"He loved his mother but didn't want to be known as her son," the New York Post reported Shelley as saying.
"He wanted to break free," he added.
A lethal drug cocktail caused the 20-year-old's death, an independent autopsy conducted in January of last year concluded. However, Ford claims that Daniel was timid toward drugs and "couldn't even hold his liquor."
Something that was not alien to Anna Nicole, claimed Ford. As according to him, the blonde kept her prescription drugs (prescribed to four different aliases) in a duffel bag, among them methadone in both liquid and pill form, which examiners say largely contributed to Daniel's death.
Anna Nicole's long-time companion Howard K. Stern as well as her mother, Virgie Arthur, attended the inquest, which was carried out on Jan 30 in Nassau, Bahamas.
The inquest, which will continue till Jan 31, is expecting statements from two different nannies who cared for Dannielynn while on the Island.
At its close a jury will decide the official causes of Daniel's death and advise on appropriate criminal charges if fault is determined.
