Train driver killed, 28 passengers injured in accident
Kushinagar/Lucknow, Jan 29 (UNI) In a major train accident, the driver of the 5211 UP Jannayak Express was killed on the spot and 28 passengers suffered injuries, when the Amritsar-bound superfast train collided with a stationary goods train at Godarwar station under the North-Eastern Railway (NER) this morning.
According to railway sources, the express train coming from Darbhanga in Bihar rammed into the goods train in which the engine and two bogies of the express were damaged.
The accident occurred in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh, about 30 km from Gorakhpur, the NER headquarters.
Of the injured, 25 were given first aid, while three others were admitted to a nearby hospital.
Sources said an inquiry had been ordered into the accident, while the rail services resumed in the section.
