Textile technology can create immense employment opportunities: Guv
Srerampore, Jan 29 (UNI) West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi today said imparting training in textile technology could create immense job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Srerampore Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, the Governor urged the faculty of the college to undertake more Community Development Programmes (CDPs) for the welfare of the local people.
Principal of the college Chakradhar Dutta said the faculty had initiated several CDPs, including launching computer awareness programmes for the local people and making jute bags and other articles, under which 21 persons had already been imparted training.
He added that this year, many new comprehensive industry-oriented courses had been launched at the institute, including M Tech in Chemical Processing of Textiles, M Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, B Tech in Information Technology, B Tech in Apparel Production Management.
The college had also executed tie-ups with three foreign universities, namely Manchester Universty (UK), Liberec University (Czech Republic) and Itech University (Lyon, France), for student exchange programmes, Mr Dutta added.
