Jamshedpur, Jan 29 (UNI) Arjuna awardee Tarundeep Rai of Services and Priyank of Uttar Pradesh set national records in the 70 and 90 meters distance respectively in the men's recurve section on the second day of the 28th Senior National Archery championship at JRD Tata sports complex here today.
Taurndeep earned 344 points bettering previous record set by Rabidas Haiburu (143points) of ITBP in Vijaywada national last year.
International archer Jayanta Talukdar of Steel Plants Sports Board (SPSB),however,could not perform as per his reputation and had to be satisfied with second spot with 338 points while Priyank, despite creating record in 90 m was third with 336 points.
Priyank hit the bull's eye with 330 points to set the new national record eclipsing Somai Murmu's 318 points.Talukdar also failed to notch up the top slot in this distance too and managed to score 327 points for the second spot while Railways Mangal Singh Champia lagged by one point to get the third position.
World record holder Dola Banerjee, after failing to top in women's 70 M yesterday,came to her form today to bag gold in the 50 M with 331 points while her compatriot Bombayla Devi of Railways was second with 324 points.Nagaland's Chekrovolu Swuro became third with 319 points.
In women's 70 M compound round hosts Jharkhand dominated the proceedings as Bhegyabati Chanu bagged 338 points to surpass her much-famed compatriot international Jhanu Hansda (331)for the top spot.Namita Yadav was third with 330 points. In the women's 60 M compound,however,Delhi's Manjudha Soy topped with 340 points while Jharkhand girls Bhagyati Chanu and Namita Yadav secured second and third spots with 337 and 335 points respectively.
In the men's 60 M compound round S Sridhar of Services became first with 345 points while Sanjay Swansi and M Jailsingh of Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh had captured second and third position with 342 points each. The Indian rounds saw Arun Boro of Assam bagged gold in the 30M with 338 points while Assam also dominated in the women's 30 M as Protibha Boro became first with 332 points.L Ranjana Devi of Arunachal Pradesh secured gold in the 50 M distance.
