Mumbai, Jan 29: The BSE Sensex slipped below the 18,000 barrier post the announcement of the third quarter review of the monetary policy which kept the key rates unchanged.
In choppy market conditions, sensex touched a low at 17,927.92 points at late noon session wiping off early gains as the market opened the day with a 194 point increase. Sensex however, regained marginally though the market remained hovering near the level of 18000. Meanwhile, the banking index on an average slipped by four to five per cent.
The BSE Mid-Cap index was down by 0.38 per cent at 7,956.42 while the BSE Small-Cap index slipped by 0.03 per cent at 10,300.31. At the same time Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was marginally down in the mid session.
