Ravnoor shocks fourth seed Ikttesh Chahal

Chandigarh, Jan 29 (UNI) Unseeded Ravnoor Kaur pulled off a mild surprise as she shocked fourth seed Ikttesh Chahal 7-6 (4) 4-6, 7-5 in a girls under-16 pre-quarter-final match in the AITA Championship Series being played at Lake Club Sports Complex here today.

Unseeded Rajbir Kaur of Punjab put up a striff resistance before going down to another Punjab player and eighth seed Jaspreet Kaur at 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 inn another hard-fought pre-quarter-final encounter.

Local girls and third seed Harnoor Kaur Mann moved into the quarter-final as she defeated Shreya Malhotra of Delhi in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Top seed Pooja A. Naryana, Mehga Sherawat, Sandeep K. Saran and second seet Baljinder Kaur also advanced into the quarter-finals without facing any trouble.

Top seed Pankaj Kumar, second seed Kamal Kishore Maderana, Sunny Dahiya, Digvijay Naruka, Anikhit Prasad, Manish Kumar, Vilash Khate and Sushant Mohanti advanced into the quarter-finals in the boys under-14 singles. Unseeded Sunny Dahiya of Haryana upset fifth seed Nischay Rawat of Chandigarh in a close and tough contest. Sunny won 7-6, (6) 5-7, 6-3.
