National level agitation against migration: Patkar
Bokaro, Jan 29 (UNI) Asserting that a national level agitation would be launched against migration, Narmada Bachao Andolan National Convenor Medha Patkar alleged that people across the country were being exploited in the name of industrialisation.
Talking to UNI here yesterday, Ms Patkar said the condition of displaced people in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal and Jharkhand was miserable.
Ms Patkar alleged that the Centre, along with the state governments concerned, had handed over huge amount of land to industrial houses without making any concrete plans for the displaced.
Refering to Jharkhand, Ms Patkar accused the state government of forcibly acquiring lands for building the Bokaro Steel City, Damodar Valley Corporation and Tenughat project and alleged that these were now creating pollution in the respective areas.
She urged the people to unite and fight for their land rights.
