NABARD calls NGOs for new activities
Hyderabad, Jan 29 (UNI) Complimenting the grassroot level support extended by NGOs in several of its interventions, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Chief General Manager S R Aluru today urged its NGO partners to extend their reach into newer activities wherever feasible.
Addressing the NGOs in an interactive meet here, Mr Aluru said with the increasing role of NABARD in rural development, the NGOs' support would be critical in the years to come.
He said there was an urgent need to address the problems concerning agriculture and rural areas, and improve the income of rural people.
Stressing on the need for sharing natural resources, reducing costs and improving margins, Mr Aluru said this can be done by bringing small landholders together and attempting at community farming techniques. This, when done in a planned manner, can result in risk mitigation as community resources are combined and the final profits are shared.
''We may try such ideas on a pilot basis and take corrective actions from the learnings and upscale the programmes,'' the senior NABARD official added.
