Soon after arrival here, Mr Balakrishnan proceeded to Udaipur, district headquarters of South Tripura and held meeting with the District Magistrates, Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) and discussed the point of references of the Election Commission of India before conducting the same exercise in Agartala.
Official sources here said the objective of the orientation programme was to make AROs and ROs conversant with the new guidelines and use of newly formatted EVMs prescribed by the EC.
Mr Balakrishnan expressed satisfaction over the poll preparation in the state and assured to extend all out support to ensure fair and error free election in Tripura, which would be replicated in next elections in the country. He also held a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr G S G Ayyanger.
Meanwhile, the ECI has appreciated the electoral roll and electronic photo ID card (EPIC) of Tripura. Quoting ECI observers, state election panel officials here said EPICs in most of the assembly segments have been error-free and the electoral roll was also substantially correct.
