Duleep Trophy match between WZ

Rajkot, Jan 29 (UNI) West Zone garnered three points by virtue of their first innings lead over Central Zone as the four-day Duleep Trophy match ended in a tame draw here today at the Madhav Rao Scindia Cricket Ground.

Central Zone could register one point as the match ended in a draw. The game was called off before the start of the mandatory overs. West Zone made 335 for seven in their second essay when stumps were drawn. Ramesh Power and Sandeep Jobanputra were unbeaten at 47 and 40 runs respectively.

Earlier, West Zone started their second innings with an overnight score of 99 for no loss. S Kurkreja who was unbeaten on 40 was the first to go in the very first over of the day without addition of any run when he was caught on the slip by Mohd Kaif of Medium pacer S Mathur.

West Zone captain Parthiv Patel joined with Rahane and both added 98 runs for the second wicket before later was trapped LBW off medium pacer S S Sanyal after scoring 89 runs of 202 balls which included 15 boundaries.

Parthiv Patel hit 74 runs in second essay with eleven boundaries.

Medium pacer S Mathur was the most successful bowler for the Central Zone in the second essay scalping five wickets for 63 runs while S S Sanyal took one wicket for sixty eight.

Yusuf Pathan who had scored 107 runs in the first essay was unfortunatly run out in the second innings on his personal score of just nine runs.

North Zone who won their opening encounter against South Zone at Ahmedabad and secured five points, will clash with East Zone here from February 11.

BRIEF SCORE: West Zone Ist Innings: 411 for all out Central Zone Ist Innings: 384 for all out West Zone 2nd Innings: 335 for 7 wickets in 109 overs ( S Kukreja 40, A Rahane 89, Parthiv Patel 74 Ramesh Powar not out 47, Sandeep Jobanputra not out 40 S Mathur five for 63 and S S Sanyal one for sixtyeight).
