CBI arrests BSNL engineer in Silchar for taking bribe
New Delhi, Jan 29 (UNI) The CBI has arrested a BSNL engineer in Silchar for taking a bribe and recovered cash and incriminating documents after conducting raids at his office and residence.
The engineer, Sanjeev Kumar Kansal, had demanded a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh from a businessman for awarding a contract for constructing USO towers in Chandel and Churachandpur districts in Manipur.
Kansal had already taken Rs one lakh out of the amount demanded on the condition that the remaining sum would be paid in five days.
A case was registered against him under Section 7 of the PC Act 1988, a CBI spokesman said today.
Raids at Kansal's residence and office led to the recovery of Rs 1.17 lakh in cash, a locker key and some incriminating documents.
