Sonepat, Jan 29 (UNI) Five armed miscreants made an abottive attempt to loot more than Rs 10 lakh from a branch of the Central Bank of India at Ghagoli village in this district today.
However, three of them were nabbed by the villagers and police and looted cash was recovered from their possession. Their two associates managed to escape.
According to information, five youths came to the bank branch on two motorcycles around 1045 hrs and on pistol point looted more than Rs 10 lakh.
After coming out from the bank with looted cash in a bag, two of them sped away on a motorcycles. However, three others, including the one carrying the bag, could not escape as the motorcycle did not start .
Meanwhile, the branch Manager put on emergency siren alerting the villagers. The villagers reached the bank and overpowered two of them.
The third one having the cash bag tried to escape through the streets of the village and fired at a youth before entering in a sugarcane field. Police meanwhile reached the spot and the youth was nabbed from the sugarcane field .
This was the fourth incident of robbery in this branch during past six years.
