Patna, Jan 29 (UNI) The Bihar government today constituted an all party committee with an aim to monitor the situation arising out of the ongoing electricity crisis and poor Public Distribution System (PDS), After holding the all party meet, convened to discuss the issue of power crisis and PDS and attended by the state presidents of all political parties, Mr Kumar told newspersons here that the all party committee had been constituted to improve the PDS.
He said the committee would look into the distribution of the foodgrains and other materials right from the lifting centres of the Food Corporation of India to the district and block levels.
Mr Kumar said the committee would ensure that each and every genuine person should avail the benefit of the PDS.
On the issue of the power crisis, he said the central allocation to Bihar was insufficient and the present allocation was inadequate to cater to the requirements of the state.
Regarding power generation, he said Barauni Thermal Power station was generating just 80 MW electricity, while the generation was nil in the Kanti Thermal Power station, which was still under the process of modernisation.
Apart from enhancing the allocation to Bihar, Mr Kumar demanded the Centre to ensure that the power generation units in Bihar should supply round the clock electricity in their adjoining areas.
He also directed the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) to maintain transparency in the distribution of electricity. He also asked the Board to publicise the day-to-day distribution of electricity to the districts.
He said an all party committee had also been constituted to monitor the distribution of electricity and maintained that it would purge off the confusion regarding distribution.
Mr Kumar further said supply of electricity to Railways, Army and Nepal was one of his responsibilities, and keeping in mind the requirements of Bihar the Centre should immediately enhance the state's share.
He lauded the cooperation, extended by the leaders of all political parties, saying he was trying to take each and every party in confidence in the interest of the state.
Cooperation of all parties was essential for the the progress and the development of the state, he stated.
The all party meet was attended by the RJD state president Abdul Bari Siddiqui, BPCC president Sadanand Singh, JD(U) state president Rajesh Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, BJP state president Radha Mohan Singh and others.
