Efforts
are
being
made
to
save
the
world"s
largest
river
island
Majuli
from
erosion
of
its
embankments,
and
continuous
siltation
that
threaten
to
wipe
away
a
large
island
settlement
on
the
river
Brahmaputra
in
India"s
northeastern
state
of
Assam.
A concrete wall is being constructed to check the rapid flow of water that has been causing incessant erosion reducing the island to half its size.
