Thrissur, Kerala, Jan 28 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Pampady in this district following a clash between AITUC and CITU workers over loading of goods, in which eight police personnel were injured today.
A portion of the AITUC office was destroyed and furniture and other office materials were thrown out and set afire.
Both the sides pelted stones at the cops when they tried to intercede. Eight police personnel, including Chelakkara Circle Inspector Prabhakaran and three women constables, were injured in the stone throwing and were hospitalised.
Five vehicles, including three police jeeps, were also damaged partially in the attack.
Trouble had been brewing since some AITUC workers joined the CITU recently. When they came to load logs into lorries, the AITUC workers protested, leading to a fight between the two unions.
Police, which later brought the situation under control, was camping in the area to prevent more violence.
