Take action against those offering support to LTTE: TNCC chief
Chennai, Jan 28 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President M Krishnasamy today urged Chief Minister M Karunandhi to take action against political parties and non political organisations, which offered support to the banned LTTE in the state.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, copy of which was made available to the media, the Congress leader said it was a matter of regret that these parties and organisations were offering open support to the outlawed LTTE even after state Director-General of Police (DGP) made it clear that the state would not allow anyone supporting the LTTE in any manner.
He said in the last two months, political parties and some organisations were organising public meetings, conferences in support of LTTE and ridiculing the Congress party.
This has created a sense of disappointment and aversion, not only in the minds of Congressmen, but among the general public also, he said.
''Our senior leaders are disgusted about this,'' he said and demanded that action be taken against those who violated rule of law.
Stating that the country would never forget the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the soil of Tamil Nadu, he said the LTTE was banned in the country for assassinating Mr Gandhi.
Earlier, talking to newspersons, Mr Krishnasamy said the party would organise its zonal conferences in Tiruchirapalli and Salem in February as part of strengthening the party.
The party was gearing itself to capture power in the state in the 2011 Assembly elections, he said.
