New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) Tennis star Sania Mirza today earned yet another distinction by becoming first the Indian to be Asia's number one woman tennis player.
A good showing at the Australian open, where she reached the third round of the singles and the final of the mixed doubles event helped Sania gain three spots to rise to the 29th position with 931 points to become the continent's new number one woman player replacing China's Na Li.
As per the latest WTA rankings, Na Li has slipped to the 32nd position.
Sania, who had reached the third round of the Double's event also, however, slipped in the doubles rankings -losing five places- from the 18th to be placed 23rd as per the latest list.
She had paired with Australian Alicia Molik in the Australian Open.
