Sultanpur, Jan 28 (UNI) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi today said National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would be carried out on lines of Andhra Pradesh for its 'corruption-free' and successful implementation in Uttar Pradesh.
The Amethi MP also assured that essential amendments would be made in the NREGS provisions so that its benefits reach gram panchayats directly.
Clad in the quintessential white 'kurta-pyjama', Rahul was presiding over a district vigilance committee meeting in this district.
''An AP team under my leadership would visit Sultanpur on February 16 to tell the NREGS success tale in AP to public representatives and officials,'' the young MP informed.
However, the public representatives were disheartened during the meeting as the Centre rejected their special package demand under 'Indira Awas Yojna'.
The Congress leader further directed the officials official to allot houses to calamity victims under Indira Awas Yojna on priority basis.
After meeting school children at Musafirkhana, Rahul left for Mumbai later in the evening.
The AICC general secretary had arrived here on Republic Day on a three-day visit.
He took stock of several schemes, including 'Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna' and held meetings in his constituency.
