Srinagar, Jan 28 (UNI) The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir today experienced light snowfall, while the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and other upper reaches had heavy snowfall.
However, the night temperature here was normal, while the maximum was one degree above normal after it got cloudy in the afternoon.
People in the city and its adjoining areas shivered in cold after intermittent light snowfall till noon. However, the snow melted after the temperature rose to six degrees, one degree above normal due to sunshine in the afternoon.
In Gulmarg, where national winter games are being held next month, about one feet to two feet of fresh snowfall was recorded at Affarwat, Khilanmarg and seven springs. There are already seven to ten feet of snow accumulated on the slopes.
The night temperature recorded was minus two degrees, considered normal during this time of the winter season.
Reports of heavy snowfall were also received from other upper reaches in the valley.
