New Delhi, Jan 28: Women judokas spearheaded the challenge, winning four titles as India dominated the Commonwealth Judo championship bagging 20 medals,including 11-Gold, while winning the Senior category and finishing runners up in the junior section of the event.
In the championship held in Mauritius, Judokas did the country proud by winning seven gold, two silver and five bronze medals in the senior caregory.Four of the seven Gold medal were won by the Women. In the Junior section, India claimed four gold, a silver and a bronze. Gold medal winners in the senior category were: (Men): Sandeep (56kg),Navjot Chana (60kg),Ramashrey Yadav (73 kg), (Women): Ranjit Kaur(44 kg),Khumujam Tombi Devi (48kg), Anita Chanu (52kg), Garima Chaudhary (63kg).
Silver: (Men) Yashpal Solanki(Open), (Women) Laisram Nirupama Devi(57 kg) Bronze: (Men): Virender Singh (81 kg),Pawan Kumar (100 kg) (Women):Chongtham Jina Devi (70 kg), Bittu (78 kg).
A 23- member Indian squad took part in this championship in which 13 countries, including England, Scotland, New Zealand, South Africa took part.
