Jammu, Jan 28 (UNI) Mortal remains of Capt Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, who was martyred in the North-East region just a day after being awarded Sena Medal (Gallantry), will be cremated with full military honours at his native place here in Kathua tomorrow.

Capt Chaudhary was martyred last afternoon in a counter insurgency operation at village Barapathar in Tinsukia (Assam).

The 27-year-old Gorkha officer had killed two militants banned ULFA's 28 Battalion, even after being shot in his neck, official sources said.

The body of the martyr soldier, which was flown in a special aircraft from Dibrugarh to Pathankot this morning, will be consigned to flames in his native place Kathua with full military honours at 1100 hrs tomorrow, Defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told UNI.

Capt Chaudhary was awarded a Sena Medal for gallantry, in the awards announced on Republic Day -- a day before he attained martyrdom -- for an operation against ULFA at Nabjothi (Tinsukia) in July last year, wherein two militants, including a self-styled 'action group commander' of the outfit Sgt Palash Moni, were killed.

Son of a serving Army officer, Lt Col P L Chaudhary, Capt Chaudhary was commissioned from IMA, Dehradun, into 7/11 Gorkha Rifles on December10, 2004. His brother, Flying Officer Ankur, is serving in the Indian Air Force.
