Mumbai, Jan 28 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Dr Jairaj Phatak inaugurated a book exhibition, containing 300 books on and by Mahatma Gandhi, at Hutatma Chowk here today.
The book exhibition was organised by Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal&Gandhi Book Centre, in association with the Babulnath Mandir Charities, in order to commemorate 60 years of his death anniversary.
The books are for sale at 50 per cent discount.
Assitant Commissioner of 'A' Ward Vijay Balamwar and many other eminent persons were also present on the occasion.
Speaking to reporters later, Dr Phatak said ''These kind of exhibitions are the need of the hour in the present context of increasing violence.'' The exhibition will be on till February 2 from 1000 hrs to 1900 hrs.
''In the present context of increasing violence, terrorism and crime, autobiography and other books of Mahatma Gandhi are inspiring many people all over the world. More than 2.50 lakh copies of 'An Autobiography' of Mahatma Gandhi are being sold every year. After reading Gandhi's books, many people have decided to follow the path of Truth and Non-Violence and are striving to sustain morality by practicing peaceful conflict resolution, which is the need of the hour,'' said T R K Somaiya of Sarvodaya Mandal, while explaining the need for such an exhibit.
