TN Marxist leader, freedom fighter passes away
Chennai, Jan 27 (UNI) Veteran Marxist leader, freedom fighter and former member of the Tamil Nadu Assembly C Govindarajan died at a private hospital in Cuddalore following a prolonged illness, yesterday.
He was 87.
In a statement here today, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadharajan condoled the death of Mr Govindarajan and said the party flag would fly at half mast for three days from today as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
He said right from his days as a student of Annamalai University, Mr Govindarajan had served as a member of the Congress, Congress Sociality and CPI(M) parties.
As founder-member of the CPI(M), he had tirelessly worked for the growth of the party in the Unified South Arcot district. He had also served as the party State Committee member for a long time.
Mr Govindarjan had rendered yeoman service for strengthening the trade unions as a member of the AITUC and later as a CITU member.
He was thrice elected to the State Assembly from Nellikuppam constituency and had also served as the Nellikuppam Panchayat President.
