'Gie' screened to honour Indonesian film industry
Mumbai, Jan 27 (UNI) The Consulate General of Indonesia, delegates and film buffs today honoured the Indonesian film industry with a screening of ''Gie'', at Cine Max, Versova here.
The screening of the film was followed by an interactive session.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consulate General Hari Suwonoso said that films from Indonesia could be suitable for the Indian market. He also spoke about films, life and attitude of the Indonesian people.
Based on a true character ''Gie'' potrays the struggles of Soe Hok Gie, a political activist during Indonesia's turbulent and dark 60s. Using his skill as a writer, Gie is constantly at odds with the existing political and bureaucracy.
He pays a heavy price for his idealism, beliefs and constant opposition to the system which gradually isolates him. He ends up losing his friends and ultimately is rejected by the woman he loves.
Made in 2005, the film is directed by Riri Riza and has won several awards in the film circuit.
