Agartala, Jan 26 (UNI) Tripura Governor Dinesh Nandan Sahaya today said the state had achieved remarkable economic growth and all-round development during the past year, besides the restoration of peace and tranquility.
Unfurling the national tricolour on the occasion of the 59th Republic Day here at the Assam Rifles ground, Mr Sahaya said among all the North Eastern states, Tripura stood second, after Mizoram, in the literacy rate.
He, however, added that militants had killed 12 civilians and seven security personnel this year while 227 militants of various outfits surrendered this year and security personnel killed 20 tribal guerrillas. The state government had offered rehabilitation to 6,000 surrendered insurgents of different outfits.
Tripura had also signed as many as six bilateral trade treaties with Japan, Germany, China and Thailand-based enterprises for utilising forest and agricultural resources for sustainable economic development of the state, Mr Sahaya said.
The state administration awarded four police officers with the President's police medal for their meritorious and distinguished services this year, which was announced here today.
P V K Reddy, IPS, Inspector General of Police (Administration), Prasanta Kumar Majumder, IPS, Joint Commandant General (Home Guard), Nepal Chandra Das, IPS Superintendent of Police (Operation) and Kyojaihla Mog, Sub-Inspector of Police would be conferred with the award.
