Shimla, Jan 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje unfurled the Tricolour and took the guard of honour while celebrating the 59th Republic Day here today.
Security personnel from the State Armed Police, ITBP, Home Guards, Army regiments, NCC and Exservicemen participated in the state-level parade.
Mr Kokje also inspected the guard of honour, which was commanded by Shimla ASP N K Sharma, while Captain Iqbal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles commanded the parade.
Cutlural programmes were also organised on the occasion with tableaux of various departments and corporation of the state were the main highlights of the day.
Cultural programmes presented by cultural troupes of the state as well as from the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, entertained the people on the occasion.
Lady Governor Leena Kokje, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, leader of the opposition in the Assembly Vidya Stokes, local legislator Suresh Bhardwaj, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Narender Kataria and state DGP Ashwani Kumar, freedom fighthers, senior civil and police officers besides several other important people were also present on the occasion.
Reports of Republic Day functions were also received from all district headquarters of the state.
