PMK urges linking of rivers to solve water disputes
Puducherry, Jan 26 (UNI) The Pattali Makklal Katchi (PMK) today urged linking of national rivers to find a settlement to the water disputes.
In a resolution adopted at the executive committee meeting of the party which concluded here, it demanded that rivers in various states should be linked as a prelude to the linking of the national rivers. The centres should extend financial assistance for this.
Another resoution urged the union government to take steps to find a solution to the problems of Sri Lankan Tamils through proper discussions. India should not extend any military assistance.
The resolution also urged for steps to protect the interests of the Tamils in Malaysia.
Reiterating that there is no change in the announcement of the party that it would extend support to the DMK government for five years,another resolution cautioned that it could not blindly support the DMK for the schemes evolved by it and implemented them as it desired.
Condemning the attack on Christians in Orissa ,the meeting urged the Centre and the state government to take proper steps to provide adequate security to the Christian and adequate community precautionary measures to prevent any recurrence.
Another resolution appealed for the retrieval of Katchhatheevu from Sri Lanka to find a permanant solution to the problems of Tamil Nadu fishermen.
