Gurgaon, Jan 26 (UNI) Haryana Governor Dr A R Kidwai today gave a clarion call to all sections of the society to work unitedly for eradication of poverty from the state.
The Governor was speaking at the state level Republic Day function here after unfurling the National Flag and taking salute from the contingents of Police, Home Guard, NCC and Girl Guides.
"Haryana has become a model state in the country due to speedy progress made in every sphere. 80 per cent of Basmati rice exported from the country is from Haryana and its GDP is 10.6 per cent as against 9.4 per cent at the national level while Rs 14,000 crore of software is exported from the state as against the total export of Rs 30,000 crore," the Governor said.
Dr Kidwai said that an investment of Rs 28,000 crore had been achieved by the state government whereas investment schemes of Rs 68,000 crore were in pipeline.
On the occasion the Governor presented State Children Bravery Award 2007 to Ms Kaushalya of Gurgaon and Ms Suprita of Kaithal for their act of bravery.
The Governor also honoured 45 freedom fighters and widows of freedom fighters with shawls. As many as 56 social workers, educationists, students and employees were awarded for their meritorious services. He also gave away 35 tricycles and five wheel chairs to the handicapped.
Impressed by the cultural programme and yoga exercises presented by the school children, he announced a reward of Rs 1.51 lakh for them.
He also awarded the winners of 19 tableux taken out on this occasion. The tableu of Haryana Urban Development Authority was adjudged first, followed by District Rural Development Agency, which ranked second and Forest Department was adjudged third.
In the march past, contingent of Haryana Police led by Suresh Kumar stood first, Junior NCC ranked second and girl guides platoon was adjudged third.
The District Administration announced holiday in all the educational institutions of the district on January 28 for their outstanding performance in the function.
