Patna, Jan 26 (UNI) People of Bihar today celebrated the 59th Republic Day with due honour but under tight security.
During the day's main function at the historic Gandhi maidan here, Governor R S Gavai unfurled the national flag and took salute of the parade of various contingents of the Army, paramilitary forces and the state armed police in presence of a huge gathering.
Among those present was Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Cabinet colleagues and the Assembly Speaker, besides a large number of government officials. Later, several tableaux were taken out by a number of government organisations highlighting developments in several sectors in the state.
The tricolour was also unfurled at the state Legislative Council and Assembly by Council Chairman Arun Kumar and Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary respectively.
The day was also celebrated by all political parties, including the ruling JD(U), BJP and the opposition RJD and the LJP and the BSP in their respective offices where the national flag was unfurled by the state unit chiefs.
Similar observations were held at several schools, colleges and other instutions and residential localities to celebrate the day in a befitting manner, giving a festive look to the capital city Meanwhile, tight security measures had been taken all over the state since yesterday to prevent any untoward incident. Additional forces had been deployed in front of all government offices and heritage buildings, besides at the Airport, Railway stations and other crowded places. People had also been asked to remain vigilant and inform the nearest police post in case of any suspicion.
However, there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the state so far, official sources informed.
