TN: Pipe bombs hurled at RSS Office

Miscreants
hurled
two
pipe
bombs
at
the
terrace
of
the
Rashtriya
Swayamsevak
Sangh
(RSS)
Office
here
last
night
leading
to
tension
in
this
town
and
surrounding
areas.
However, nobody was injured.
Police protection has been given to the office located on Kannimaramman Temple Street and pickets posted in all vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incident. Patrolling has been intensified and suspected anti-socials taken into custody for interrogation.
The RSS Office is housed in the first floor of the building and no one was in the office at the time of the attack.
Only a wooden door was slightly damaged. Eye-witnesses said they heard a loud explosion at around 2100 hrs last night.
Similarly, minutes before the bomb attack on RSS office, another explosion took place at Tenkasi New Bus Stand. One person suffered minor injuries. However, further details were not known.
Forensic experts and personnel of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) personnel collected samples from the site. Initial investigation revealed that a low intensity explosive was used.
It was not known immediately whether it was the handiwork of fundamental groups.
Senior police officials are camping in Tenkasi to defuse the tense situation. A massive hunt is on to nab the culprits.Several shops here downed shutters today.
Police are conducting vehicular checks throughout the Tenkasi Town, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the Tirunelveli Unit of the BJP demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
On August 14 last year, Tenkasi witnessed communal violence in which six persons were killed.
