Lucknow, Jan 25 (UNI) In a major relief to state government employees, the Uttar Pradesh government today waived Value Added Tax (VAT) on the products sold from the outlets of the UP Employees Welfare Corporation(UPEWC) and defence canteens in the state.
The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Mayawati here.
According to official sources, now all the outlets of the UPEWC and CSD canteens would sell items without VAT.
Over 150 outlets of the UPEWC were on the verge of closure after the VAT regime was imposed in the state from New Year.
Earlier before the VAT regime, the government had waived trade tax on the items sold from these outlets.
Similarly, the government has waived VAT on the items sold from the CSD canteens.
In another decision, the state cabinet also gave its approval to increase the area of jurisdiction of several development authorities including that of Aligarh and Pilkhua- Hapur.
