K'taka Governor announces shifting of three villages

Bangalore, Jan 25(UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said that the executive committee approved a project for shifting of three villages in Bagalkot district at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

Talking to newsmen here after the meeting, he said that under the pilot project the shifting of two villages in Badami taluk and one village in Hunagund taluk would begin in the second week of February.

He said that more than 500 families, who were hit by floods last season, would benefit from this programme.

The housing sites would be provided free of cost for families of Below Poverty Line, SC and ST to construct the houses in the new locations, he said adding that the land has been procured and the work would begin soon.

He said that a meeting would be held next week in connection with providing of price hike over and above the existing Minimum Support Price for sugarcane growers.

Mr Thakur said that the sugar mills had been asked to crush all the existing sugar cane crop of this season.
