Bhubaneswar, Jan 25 (UNI) The city police have recovered huge cash, gun, ammunition, mobile sets and fifteen credit cards of various banks from the apartment here of mafia don Brijesh Singh, who stayed here for the last three years.
The dreaded criminal involved in serial murders and extortions in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi and Maharastra, was arrested by a special team of Delhi police from a shopping mall here on the night of January 23 last.
He was produced before the SDJM court here yesterday and was handed over to the Delhi police, who sought for 14 days transit remand and later took him to Delhi.
Brijesh Singh, the police said, was maintaining a very low profile in the city and was engaged in real estate business through Vindyachal Real Estate Developer and Property Limited.
Deputy Police Commissioner Sharat Sahoo said the criminal was residing at the Krishna Apartment in Bomikhal. During the raid, the police have recovered Rs.6.61 lakh in cash, a country made pistol, 43 rounds of ammunition, gold and silver coins, three mobile phones and 15 bank credit cards.
The police also recovered a passport which he had obtained from the Bhubaneswar passport office in the name of Arun Singh where he has given Bhagalpur, Bihar, as his permanent address.
Though during the interrogation Brijesh had confessed of his involvement in at least 11 murder cases, but he has no criminal record in Orissa, Police Commissioner Binaya Kumar Behera said.
Mr Sahu said Brijesh was staying with his wife, two sons and a daughter. But his sons are styding in Dheradun and the daughter was to be admitted to a local school here.
One of his relatives, was also staying in another apartment here and Brijesh was a frequent visitor to that apartment but by the time the police could trace the apartment to find out his relative, he had absconded.
Police said the three mobile sets seized from Brijesh apartment could provide some more details of his activities here after the calls made from these phones were traced.
The mafia don had also obtained a gun license from Munger in Bihar and had constructed at least three apartments. One of the apartments could not be completed as the Bhubaneswar Development Authority noticed some violation and objected to the construction, police said.
