Grama Sabha meeting will not be convened on Jan 26: Federation

Puducherry, Jan 25 (UNI) The Federation of village panchayat presidents has decided not to convene the Grama Sabha meeting here tomorrow.

Federation president Jaganathan, in a release today said a decsion to this effect was taken at a meeting of the federation office-bearers here yesterday.

Stating that even after 18 months of the local body elections, the administration had failed to devolve power to the elected local body representatives, he said the act of the govenrment need to be condemned.

It was not fair to ask the panchayat to convene the Grama Sabha meeting, he added.

He said none of the decsions taken at the grama sabha meeting on October 2 last year were implemented yet.

As rent balance for the village panchayat office, power tariff balance, water charges, telephone bill, among other things, were pending for the last one-and-a-half years, the village panchayat had decided not to convene the Grama Sabha meeting, he said adding that Telegrams were sent to Union Ministers Shivraj Patil and Mani Shankar Aiyer in this regard.
