Patna, Jan 25: The dawn-to-dusk Bihar bandh sponsored by the opposition parties began peacefully in the state today.
Sources at the state headquarters here said no untoward incident had so far been reported from any part of the state. The sources said elaborate security arrangements had been made in view of the bandh. Paramilitary forces had been depolyed at the sensitive places. Water canons, fire brigade vehicles have been stationed at vulnerable points in the state capital. The sources informed that all district police superintendents had been directed to remain alert during the bandh and had been asked to maintain tight vigil in their jurisdiction.
Additional deployment had been made at all railway stations, bus stands and in the markets.
Sources at the East Central Railways said the government rail police and railway protection force were keeping hawks eyes on the railway tracks and other railway establishments. Arrangements had also been made for smooth running of the trains.
Meanwhile, private schools remained closed in view of the bandh.
Vehiculer traffic was thin. Meanwhile, the opposition parties were taking out procession separately to enforce bandh.
The emergency services, however, had been exempted from the perview of the bandh.
Earlier, three people were killed recently when the police had opened fire at a mob agitating in suport of their demands for 24 hours electricity supply in Kahalgaon of Bahagalpur district.
