Srinagar, Jan 24: Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation (VO) has caught red-handed Mohammad Maqbool Mir, Junior Assistant, in the office of Naib Tehsildar Wagoora, Baramulla while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 for processing the issue of income certificate.
A spokesman of the VG said one Imtiyaz Ahmad Mailk lodged a written report with Police Station Vigilance Organisation Kashmir (VOK) alleging that a Junior Assistant in the office of Naib Tehsildar Wagoora was demanding illegal gratification of Rs 1000 for processing the issue of income certificate which was required by him for issue of Resident of Border Area (RBA) certificate in his favour.
Similarly FIR number 3/2008 was registered and investigation taken up.
In the course of investigation the officials of VO laid a successful trap caught the Junior Assistant red handed while accepting bribe from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses.
The tainted money was recovered from him, he said adding the accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
The file pertaining to the issue of income certificate in favour of complainant was also seized, he said.
