Kiwi sets world record by shearing 560 ewes in 8 hours!
Wellington, Jan 24 : New Zealander Jimmy Clark smashed a 9-year world record by shearing 560 sheep in just 8 hours.
Clark reached the landmark on Jan 23 at Wairaki Station, near Blackmount, in western Southland.
The previous record for full-wool crossbred ewes of 495 was set by Marton shearer Hayden Te Huia in 1999.
Over the eight hours Clark averaged one sheep every 51.43 seconds.
The 30-year-old Blackmount man admitted that he was thrilled by the record-breaking effort.
"Yeah, happy. I'm quite surprised how many people turned up," Stuff.co.nz quoted him, as saying.
Four referees from the World Sheep Shearing Records Society, led by Australian Mark Baldwin, assessed the sheep and the pen.
