Orissa: Dreaded coal mafia arrested

Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: Notorious criminal Brijesh Singh alias Arun Singh, wanted by at least four states, was arrested by a Delhi Police team here yesterday.

Orissa Police Commissionerate Binay Kumar Behera today said sleuths, in plain clothes, arrested Singh while he was coming out from a shopping mall here. The state Police, who apprehended that Singh had been kidnapped, intercepted the team and detained the dreaded criminal in the Kharvel Nagar Police station here.

He was being taken to Delhi by air.

Singh, a UP based coal mafia, had been running a real estate business in the city since the last three years and was wanted by the Uttar Pradesh police since 1984.

Besides, he was wanted by West Bengal and Gujarat police in several murder and extortion cases.

Singh, who used to run a Rs 100 crore per year extortion business in Delhi, had a reward price of Rs five lakh on his head by the Uttar Pradesh government.

Meanwhile, the mafia don, detained in the Kharvel Nagar police station, was being interrogated and will be produced in the local court later in the day after which he will be taken to Delhi by the police in remand.
