Court orders SP to conduct probe against Sania Mirza

Tirupati, Jan 24 (UNI) Third Additional District Munisif Magistrate (ADMM) Mr Satyanarayana here ordered Chittoor district Superintendent of Police Mr Shashidhar Reddy to conduct an investigation into the case against tennis star Sania Mirza for dishonouring the National Flag during the Hopman cup competition in Australia earlier this month.

The magistrate also directed the SP to submit his report on or before March 18, 2008 by taking it up expeditiously, in the interest of the nation.

The case against the Hyderabadi was filed by an advocate Mr Kuthumbaka Ramesh for dishonoring and insulting the tricolour under sectiodn II prevention of insults to the National Honor Act 1971, on January 7.

Due to continuous festival holidays, the magistrate could admit the petition only on January 17 and posted it for hearing on January 22.

After hearing the arguments, the Magistrate today directed the Chittoor district SP to register a case and conduct the investigation.
