Melbourne, Jan 24 : The New York police has shot down reports that illegal drugs were found in the apartment of Oscar nominated actor Heath Ledger after his shocking death on Jan 22.

The NYPD confirmed that though a rolled up 20 dollar note was found near Ledger's body, there was no evidence that it had been used to snort drugs.

A spokesperson also said that there was no sign of foul play or suicide.

"They've gone through the apartment," News.com.au quoted NYPD detective Kevin Czartoryski, as telling the New York Post.

"They've secured the apartment. Now it's a wait and see when the results come back on the toxicology.

"There's no signs of any criminality or foul play. No illegal drugs have been found, no foul play and no obvious signs of suicide.

"There's no residue on that whatsoever of any controlled substance," Det Czartoryski said.

The police have also stated that there is evidence that the Aussie star was alive less than three hours before emergency services were called his Big Apple apartment.
