Islamabad, Jan 24: Amid incidents of terrorist attacks over the past few years on its nationals in Pakistan, China has reportedly asked Islamabad to provide security to its citizens working in water, power, oil, gas and other projects in the Islamic country.

The request came because of the "looming danger" after the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, the Daily Times quoted sources as saying on Wednesday. They said that a high-level meeting had been convened in this regard by the Pakistan Foreign Ministry today which would be attended by the heads of Chinese companies working in Pakistan and officials from the Water and Power Ministry, Oil and Gas Ministry, and Interior Ministry.

The sources said the meeting would chalk out a comprehensive plan about security measures for Chinese nationals in consultation with the heads of the Chinese companies.

Between May 2004 and July 2007 there have been four terrorist attacks on Chinese nationals, besides two incidents of abduction. Chinese nationals working on water and power projects - especially on Gomal Zam Hydroelectric Project - have been victims of life and kidnapping attempts, said the paper.
