Orissa: Brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore seized
Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: Police have seized brown sugar, worth Rs 1 crore in the international market, from a youth near the Manimandir at Khannagar under Madhupatna Police station of Cuttack district. Madhupatna Inspector-in-Charge P K Jena said, acting on a tip off, a police party intercepted Pramod Bal, a youth from Dhenkanal district, near the temple and seized the contraband kept in a box of his motorcycle last evening.
Mr Jena said the brown sugar weighed 1 kg. He said Bal was on his way to dispose of the the goods when he was caught. During interrogation Bal said he had procured the brown sugar from Kolkata. Bal was arrested and would be produced before the court today, he added.
